He Must Become Greater

Sometimes in life we encounter people who like to stir up trouble.  There are probably a few names and faces that come to mind.   Sometimes, if we are really honest with ourselves,  we have done that same thing a time or two.

There was a man who came up to John the Baptist and said, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan-the one you testified about-well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."(John 3:26)

Now maybe that man just felt like informing John what was going and maybe he wasn't trying to stir up trouble I don't know.  I like how John the Baptist responded to this man.

John 3:27-30

"To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.
You yourselves can testify that I said, "I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of Him."
The bride belongs to the bridegroom.  The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegrooms voice.

That joy is mine, and it is now complete.  He must become greater; I must become less."

John the Baptist knew that Jesus had to become greater and he himself had to become less.

There is a lesson there for we who are believers in Jesus Christ.

We must become less.  That is we must humble ourselves.  Jesus must become greater in our hearts and lives.

We must set aside our pride and self importance.

We need to put Jesus first in our lives.

We all struggle with this, but with the Lord's help, through the power of the Holy Spirit , He will help us do just that.

Put Jesus first in everything you do.

Lord,
Help us set aside our pride.
Help us to put You first in every area of our lives.
May You receive all of the Glory and Praise.
In Jesus name
Amen.
