The Lord wants us to prepare our hearts and come to together with our fellow believers in Christ and worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. We are come before the Majesty of Heaven with humbled hearts and we are to seek Him and praise Him for who He is and all that He has done.
Sometimes we get caught up in following the bulletin so systematically that we end up missing that wonderful sense of the Lord's presence moving amongst God's people. The Lord is indeed present with us when we gather together as a congregation because we know where two or three are gathered the Lord will be in the midst of them.
There are times when the Lord shows up in a special way during a worship service. There is a gentleness and a warmness. Unfortunately, many believers have never experienced these moments and those who have are almost afraid to tell anyone because of a fear of being looked down on. We shouldn't feel that way because we are not supposed to be concerned about being people pleasers, but we are to be pleasing to the Lord. He wants us to worship Him and come into His presence with thanksgiving and praise. We believers in Christ should not be ashamed to worship our Lord our God especially with other believers.
I remember hearing about a Pastor in a large Church in New York City. He was at a conference at another Church in which he spoke God's Word to the people there and he led them in prayer. During that time of prayer people just started praising the Lord and you could sense the Lord's sweet presence in the room. People were enjoying worshiping in the Holy Spirit.
The Pastor said during that time of stillness and quietness someone part of the staff grabbed the microphone and told everyone to get back in their seats because they were on tight schedule and there were more things to be done before the service was over. The Pastor said that you could feel the atmosphere of the room change in an instant. The sweet quietness of the Lord's presence just vanished after that person made the announcement to get back to following the bulletin.
We all are busy in this day and age. We are all used to schedules and there is nothing wrong with bulletins and schedules, but we must ask ourselves an important question, "Are we quenching the Holy Spirit's movement in our worship service?"
Psalm 150 says,
"1 Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD."
We ought to have our hearts prepared to worship the Lord when we come to Church on Sunday morning, but we should also worship and praise Him in our homes as well. We should also praise Him during our busy days at work. What a witness we would be to a dying world if we allowed His Spirit to flow through us for His honor and praise.
The Lord has done so much for us and He cares for us. He demonstrated His great love for us by sending Jesus to die on a Cross for our sins and He raised Jesus from the dead to show us that He is indeed God and there is no other.
Isn't the Lord worthy of our worship and our praise?
Let us continue to gather together with other believers in Jesus Christ and praise Him and allow His Spirit to flow and control our Sunday morning worship time for His Glory, Honor, and Praise.
Lord,
We praise Your Name.
Help us to prepare our hearts to worship You in Spirit and in Truth.
We come to You with grateful hearts.
We are thankful for all You have done for us.
We honor You with our lips and our worship.
We lift holy hands toward Heaven to honor You.
We humble ourselves before You our God and King
We come boldly before Your throne of Grace.
Lead us and guide our steps.
Revive us O Lord.
May You pour out Your Spirit upon those who worship You in the Truth of who You are.
Touch everyone who has put their faith and trust in You Lord Jesus.
Come Quickly O Lord our God.
In the Name that is above every name we pray.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
