We like to do things on our own, don't we? We like the independence of doing things ourselves, but you know sometimes we all need help in one way or another. We can call out to the Lord when we are in trouble and we can even call on Him when everything is going well. There will be times in life when we will need help from another person as well.
We were hit with a storm today in Northern Maine where I live. It has been sleeting with some freezing rain. It is messy and awful. I had to work today and everything went pretty well. That is until I tried to leave work. Let me explain a little bit.
I made it to my SUV which was parked in the employee parking area where I work. I started the vehicle and grabbed my ice scrapper. I then proceeded to get out and scrapped the ice and sleet off of the SUV. The doors were all shut and it was running. The rain and sleet continued to fall. The wind was blowing and I was getting wet and rather cold. So, after about five minutes or so of scrapping I went to get into my vehicle, but the door wouldn't open.
I tried again, but it still wouldn't open. I tried every door, nothing. I thought maybe the doors were frozen shut, but they weren't. It was locked to my surprise and I am still not sure how exactly that happened because I have tried before to leave my vehicle running with the doors locked. I had a spare key during those attempts, but this time. This time my spare key was sitting on my kitchen counter at home.
There I was getting colder and more soaked by the sleet and rain. I had my cell phone, thankfully. So, I called my brother and he came and drove me home where I picked up the spare key. We drove back to my vehicle and I unlocked it and drove it home. It was very warm in there and it felt so very good to be able to get inside my SUV again and out of the weather.
I am thankful that my brother came to my rescue. There will be times when we need help and all we need to do is ask. Sometimes we can get stubborn or we don't want to bother someone with our plea for help. We will never know if a person will help unless we ask. We should be willing to do some helping ourselves also.
When we find ourselves in need let us call out to the Lord for He will hear our cry and let us call upon each other and be willing to be there for one another.
Lord,
Thank You for being willing to help us with our every need.
Thank You for people who are willing to help us when we find ourselves in trouble.
Help us to be grateful for the people You place in our lives.
Help us to be a helper of other people who are in need.
Help us to reach out and help without being asked.
Lead us and guide us by Your Spirit.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
