A Living Parable

Jesus told a lot of Parables during His time on earth and they always revealed a spiritual truth to those listening to them.  We know the Lord still speaks to us through the Bible even today.  He also speaks to us through the promptings of the Holy Spirit who indwells everyone who has placed their faith and trust in Jesus Christ.  The Lord also speaks to us through other believers who are living for Him.  When the Lord does speak to us He will never go against what He has giving to us in the Bible.  His Word is our standard.  His Word is the truth and He will never depart from it.

Sometimes the Lord will reveal to us a spiritual truth during a life experience.  The Lord does this many times, but sometimes we may not be paying attention unfortunately or maybe we just don't think about it.  It is easy for us to get distracted with life and miss what God is doing in our lives and in the lives of those around us.

I had an experience that I call a living parable.  Maybe I should call it something else, but that is what I will call it for now until a better name comes along.  I will first have to set up the story a little bit.

This week I had to have a colonoscopy done at my local hospital.  I am 41 years old and had to have one earlier than most people because I have a family history of colon cancer.  My doctors suggested that I have one and so I did.  The preparation was indeed the hardest part, but preparing for any test whether medical or academic can be challenging.

I was a little nervous going into the exam.  I had this thought in my mind, "What if I didn't wake up?"

I am not sure where that thought came from.  I am not sure if the devil was trying to through doubt in my mind or if somewhere deep within seeds of doubt were surfacing.  I knew the answer to my question of course, thankfully.  If I didn't wake up I would be with Jesus in Heaven because He died for my sins and HE saved me by His Grace.

Here is where the living parable comes into play.  I am wheeled into the room where they do the procedure.  They have me roll on my side and I hear someone say they are going to give my the medicine to put me to sleep.  They he says, "Here we go."

The very next sound I here is someone saying, "Michael, do you want so water?"

I open my eyes and I am in the recovery room.  There is a nurse handing me a cup of cold water with a straw.  It was that quick.

That got me to thinking about what happens when we take our last breath on earth.   I know we don't like to think about such things and maybe I am kind of weird for thinking about it,  but someday that will happen to us whether we want to face it or not.

Anyway on that day, if we are trusting in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior,  we will take our last breath and even before we realize it we will be with the Lord in Heaven.  Then we will hear Jesus say, "Welcome Home my child.  Come and enter my rest."

We truly have nothing to fear when we have Jesus as our Lord and Savior.  We don't even have to fear that dark shadow of death that seems to loom over each of us.   Those of us who are trusting in Jesus Christ will be more alive in Heaven then we ever have been on the earth.

I just thought I would share that thought with you.

They did find a polyp during my test and a little pocket in the wall of my colon,  but the doctor said he didn't think there would be a problem.  I am still waiting for the test results from the polyp and I will revisit the doctor in a few weeks.  I would appreciate your prayers.

Let's keep trusting in the Lord Jesus and keep living for Him.

Lord,
Thank You for Your love and Grace.
Thank You for taking the fear out of death because You have overcome it for us.
Draw my family and friends to You Lord Jesus for salvation.
I pray Your light would shine through me as a testimony of Your goodness.
May Your will be done.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
