Attitude Adjustment

Sometimes it is very easy for you and I to develop a negative attitude rather quickly.  We may be do really fine and then someone cuts us off in traffic,  the phone rings during our favorite television program,  or someone is really rude to us for no apparent reason what so ever.

It seems like the long dark cold winter days seems to feed our negative attitudes.   The temperature outside where I live is 15 degrees Fahrenheit.  There is snow everywhere and on everything.  It's dark.  It's cold.  The wind is blowing and it feels horribly cold.

I was shoveling off my deck earlier tonight and found myself saying that I was ready for spring to come.  The negativity was definitely surfacing tonight.   Sometimes life hits us with difficult times.

It's not always the weather or snow that can cause our attitudes to take a sour turn.  Sometimes our health fails, we lose our job, or a relationship ends.  We wonder where we can turn or if anyone understands what we are going through.

There is someone indeed who knows what we are going through and that is of course the Lord.  The Lord knows what we are going through better that anyone else on the planet.  He knows our needs and He knows our future.  The Lord wants us to turn to Him when life gets hard and even when our attitudes turn sour for whatever reason.

The other day I was clearing snow off of my roof with a roof rake.  I had to put on some snow shoes in order to do the front of my trailer.  It was a funny sight I am sure.  There I was kind of complaining about the snow again when one of my snow shoes fell off.  So there I am with one snow shoe on one foot and scrapping the snow off of the roof.  I was still complaining about the snow to myself.

I took a step with the foot that didn't have the snow shoe on it and I ended up stepping on the snow shoed foot.  I ended up tipping over and fell flat on my back.  Thankfully there is about two and a half feet of snow out front so I had a soft cushion when I fell.  There I was staring up at the sky.  It was blue and there were clouds and some birds flying over head.  Then of course I did what comes naturally to me when something totally foolish happens, I burst out laughing.

I must say I felt completely humbled.  I got up and finished raking the roof and clearing off the snow.  I felt thankful for the Lord that I was able to do this chore.  I was getting exercise that I really need.  I starting thinking of positive things like at least where I live there are no poisonous spiders,  no poisonous snakes, no alligators, no crocodiles, and not many tornadoes.

There are worse places and conditions I could be living in.  There are people in our world today that have no place to call home at all.  There are people in our very communities that have no families or friends to help them.  Some may not even know where there next meal with come from.

Sometimes we get bogged down with our own negative selfish attitudes that we forget that we need to love the Lord Jesus with all of our hearts, minds, bodies, and our entire being.  We also need to love others as the Lord loves us.

We as followers of Jesus need to reach out to those in need with the love of Jesus.  We need an attitude adjustment sometimes to see what is really truly important in life.

Lord,
Thank You for You love and Your Amazing Grace.
Help us have a attitude of gratitude for all that You have done for us.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
