Trusting The Lord With Our Fears

Have you ever experienced a time when you just felt afraid about something?  We have all have had moments when anxious thoughts enter our minds.  There are certainly many things that can cause us to fear.   We don't even have to go very far to find something to stir up fear in out minds and hearts.  All we have to do is turn on the television and watch a news program to find something to fear.

There are a lot of things that are going on in our world today that aren't good and if we aren't careful we could be swept away in a flood of fear and anxiety.  I am feeling a little anxious about something at this very moment actually.  I find the best way to calm my anxious thought is to go to the Lord in prayer and turn my focus on Him instead of that thing that is causing me to be anxious.

There are many things that can cause us to be anxious such as the threat of terrorism, increase in violence, job loss, loss of a loved one, illness, preparing to give a sermon, or a number of different things that come across our minds.  Sometimes our enemy, the devil, uses these anxious moments to try to turn our attention away from the Lord Jesus, but we must resist him at all cost.

We must remember who Jesus is.  He is our Lord and Savior.  He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  He is our redeemer and He lives.  He is Awesome and all powerful.  He promises never to leave us and to never forsake us.  We can count on Him to be there for us no matter the time of day.
We must draw near to Him and trust Him.  He is God and we can take comfort in knowing Him.  When we trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior we know that one great dat He will take us home to Heaven to be with Him forever.  What a great day that will be.  There will be no more fear, no crying, no more death, no more sickness, and no more anger.  There will be peace, rest, and an overwhelming sense of love and belonging that will never fade away and will last for all eternity.

We can take comfort in the Lord our God.  He will stand by our side through our fears.  We just need to trust Him.  Just remember that we can indeed trust Him.  He has never failed us and there has never been a time that He has failed us and there never will be.  We have His Word on it.

Isaiah 41:10-13 says,

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and
disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.
Though you search for your enemies,
you will not find them.
Those who wage war against you
will be nothing at all.

For I am the Lord, your God,
who takes you by the right hand
and says to you,
Do not fear;
I will help you."

When the Lord says He will help us when can count on Him to keep His promises.  The Lord doesn't lie nor can He lie.  There is no deceit in Him to be found.  The Lord is light and no darkness can be found in Him at all.  Why do we seem to doubt His goodness sometimes and fill ourselves with fear?

We must not allow fear to control us.  There are things that should concern us, but when we start to worry and fear we take our eyes off of the Lord.  He is bigger than any fear that we encounter in our lives.  There are numerous occasions found in the Bible that tells us not to fear.  That should tell us something.

The Lord is the One who takes us by the hand, just like a loving parent, and He says to us,

"Do not fear;

I will help you."

I am going to chose to trust the Lord and leave everything in His hands.

Lord,
Help us not to fear.  Help us to trust You.
We love You Lord.
Draw us near and help us to live for You.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
