Our Refuge And Our Fortress

When thunderstorms come rolling into to the areas where will live we are taught to take shelter immediately.  We do this so we will be protected from the harsh weather outside.  It is important for us to seek good safe shelter as well.  It will do us no good if we seek shelter in a place where we could be severally injured or worse.  When we do seek refuge from a storm we are to head to a safe and secure structure that we know can hold up to the severe winds, lightening, and the heavy rains of a dangerous storm.

Sometimes hardships can come against us just like a sever thunderstorm does.  Where do we run to when those turbulent times of adversity come against us?  There is only one place for us to run, my friend, and that is to the Lord.  He is bigger than any of life's challenges that come against us.

I like what Psalm 91 has to say about the security that we have in God.

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,

10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he
acknowledges my name.

15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

When trouble appears in our live we have a place to run to for shelter.  When the storms of life come against us we can run to the One who is greater than anything that we are going through.  We can run to the Lord Jesus Christ.  We can trust in His tender care.  For He cares for us and we help us in our time of need.

We can find refuge in the shelter of our loving God.  We can find rest in Him.  He is our God and He is our comforter.  When life gets difficult He is there with us.  He will lead us through life's most difficult times.

We may struggle and we may be shaken, but the Lord is very near to us.  He wants us to lean on Him when we have no strength left.  We our hope seems gone and our spirits are low and dry, the Lord is still near.

We need to call out to the Lord in prayer and know that He will hear our cries to Him and He will answer us.  The Lord is good and we can trust Him.

When life gets hard, where do you turn?

Let us turn to the Lord in our times of need.

Lord,
Thank You for Your goodness and Your great love.
Bless us this day with strength and guidance.
Thank You for being our refuge.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
