We ought to be praying. After all the Lord Jesus went off by Himself to pray when He was on the earth. Jesus is even praying for you and I right now in Heaven. Isn't that a great comforting thought. Prayer connects us with God and it also changes us in the process. We learn to be humble and we learn patience as we wait on the Lord to answer our prayers.
James talks about prayer in James 5:13-18 which says,
"Is any one of you in trouble?
He should pray.
Is anyone happy?
Let him sing songs of praise.
Is any one of you sick?
He should call the elders of the church
to pray over him and anoint him with oil
in the name of the Lord.
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;
the Lord will raise him up.
If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other
so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Elijah was a man just like us.
He prayed earnestly that it would not rain,
and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
Again he prayed, and heaven gave rain, and the earth produced
its crops."
The Christian should always pray. Sometimes we don't always get what we pray for. The Lord answers our request according to His will. It is hard sometimes when we pray and pray for someone who is sick and they end up dying. We wonder why the Lord didn't answer our prayer, but we forget that God can see the big picture and He does know what He is doing. Sometimes He will take a sick believer Home to be with Him and they will be in His presence completely healed.
How many of our prayers are given in faith?
I would hope that all of our prayers would be. We must first believe that the Lord exist and that He is listening to our prayers. Without faith we can't even please God.
The Lord will and does answer our prayers in accordance to His will. He is an Awesome and loving God.
Are you calling out to the Lord in prayer?
Keep calling out to Him. He is listening.
