Read The Bible

Last Fall I went to the Annual Meeting of the American Baptist Churches of Maine that was held in Thomaston, Maine.  The guest speaker was Kevin Vanhoozer  who is a Theology Professor at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois.

Mr. Vanhoozer spoke on how Pastors should be Bible teachers and they also should be Theologians as well.  We believers in Jesus Christ should be familiar with Theology.  That is we believers in Christ should know who God truly is.  We should know who we are in relation to God and we should also know how we can be reconciled back to God through Jesus Christ.

There are many Christians in Churches throughout our land that hold very strange views of God.  Some of these views would have been considered heretical by the early Church fathers.  We live in an age where many people are biblically illiterate and I feel that is very dangerous because false teachers could very easily come in a purposely deceive people with unbiblical ideas and no one would know that their teaching was off because they are not familiar enough with God's Word.

God's Word is the Truth.  We can learn a lot about the Lord and even ourselves by feeding on God's Holy Word.  The Holy Spirit will reveal things to us as we read if we allow Him to.  The Lord can speak to our very hearts as we read the Bible.

I would encourage you to make time to read the Bible and join a Bible study group or maybe even start one.

Let's stand upon the truth of God's Word and live out it's truth to the Glory of our God and Creator.

Lord,

Help us to make time to read and study the Bible.

Your Word is the Truth on which we stand.

Thank You Jesus for saving us by shedding Your blood on the Cross.

Help us to live in obedience to Your Word.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.
