Sometimes the world can seem so dark and gloomy. The winter seems so long and cold. Things get quiet and loneliness tries to barge its way into every corner of our hearts and our minds. Things and people seem to move at a slower pace in the frigid Northern Maine winter. Everything is covered with a deep blanket of snow. The brightness of the summer sunshine and the wonderful shades of green of the grass seem like a far off memory in a far off land. Things seem different in the winter.
Sometimes we encounter seasons in our own lives that seem to mimic the gloominess of winter. Everything may be going great for us and then all of a sudden something in our lives changes and we are taken off guard. We loss our job. A loved one dies. We get a terrible life altering report from the doctor.
The storms of life can take us by utter surprise and we are left feeling all alone and even isolated. We may even feel like a cast away on an island in the middle of the ocean with no one to help us. Trials can be hard. Life isn't easy. Jesus told us that on this earth we would indeed have troubles, but Jesus also tells us to take heart because He has overcome the world.
Yes, times are tough and they will get tougher most likely in some way, but we can rest assured that the Lord Jesus will be with us through the darkest of times. Jesus is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
Better days may seem like they are a long ways off and they may indeed be, but we still have our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the One who saves us for our sins. Jesus is the One who promises us eternal life in Heaven with Him when our race is finished here on earth.
There is still hope in Jesus Christ.
I look out my window and I see all of the snow, but I know that one day the snow will melt away. Then the green grass will eventually return. The birds will start singing again after their return from warmer climates. The black flies and other bugs will return. Everyday we are a day closer to spring.
Each day that we walk with our Lord Jesus means we are a day closer to going to be Home with Him for all eternity. What a great day that will be when we who are trusting in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior will be able to see the One who saved us by His Grace with our very own eyes.
We will be able to kneel at His feet and thank Him for His sacrifice on the Cross for our sins. That will be a great day indeed. We can be thankful that He will walk with us each step of the way here on earth until that day when He calls us Home to be with Him.
Our best day lies ahead.
Lord,
Thank You for loving us even when we are unlovable at times.
Help us to put You first in everything we do.
Make us servants for You.
Help us to have courage and boldness to proclaim the truth of the Gospel to those around us.
Lead us and guide us by Your Holy Spirit.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
