Knowing Where We Are Going

I remember hearing a story one time about Albert Einstein who was a famous scientist in the twentieth century.  Mr. Einstein was on a train and he couldn't find his ticket.  He looked in every pocket and still couldn't find it.  The train crew assured Mr. Einstein that they knew who he was and they believed that he did buy a ticket.  Mr. Einstein continued to look around for his ticket and he started to look under the seats for the lost ticket.  The train crew again tried to assure Mr. Einstein that everything was all right and that he didn't have to look for the ticket because they knew who he was.  Mr. Einstein replied,  "I am thankful that you know who I am, but I need my ticket to remind me where I am going."

Mr.  Einstein wanted the ticket because he wanted to know where he was supposed to get off of the train.  It is always a good thing to know where we are going in life.  When we travel we must know where we are traveling to.  If didn't have a focused destination then we would just be traveling aimlessly.

That is how some people live their lives here on earth unfortunately.  Many people have no focus or sense of purpose in their lives.  They are just existing.  They get up, go to work, go home, and repeat the same thing the next day.

The Lord wants us to know that there is a reason for our lives.  We do have a purpose.  God does have a plan for us.  We may not always be aware what He is doing in our lives or where He is taking us on our journey in life.  We can know our final destination thankfully.  The Lord Jesus is our ticket and we can't lose Him if we come to Him and trust His finished work on the Cross.

We come to Jesus Christ by faith and we are to live by faith that He will lead us and guide us to where He wants us.  One day all of us who have repented of our sins and have trusted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior will be taken to Heaven where we will be with the Lord forever.

I think sometimes we get so caught up with the way the world is that we forget that we believers in Christ are heading for Heaven.  Heaven is a very real place and it will be great!   There will be no more tears,  no more pain, no more dying, no more cancer, no more ailments of any kind, and best of all the Lord Jesus Christ will be there ready to welcome us Home.

Twice this week I have asked two different Christian how they were doing  at different times and they had the same response.  They said, "Well I am on the right side of the dirt.  I am doing better than the alternative."

I was kind of disappointed that this would come from people who claim to be believers in Jesus Christ.  It was like they had no hope or they had become so defeated.

The Lord is still with us each and everyday.  We can count on Him to be true to His promises.  I like what Jesus tells us in John 14:1-4 which says,

1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in Goda; believe also in me.

2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ we are saved and have a place in Heaven that is being prepared for us by the Lord.   One day the Lord Jesus will take us Home to be with Him.

Are you trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?

Our best days are ahead of us if we are trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am waiting for that great day when I step on that wonderful Heavenly shore and get to bow at the feet of Jesus Christ, the One who died for me.

Do you know your final destination?  If you are trusting in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then you can rest assure that Heaven will be your Home.

Lord,

We praise Your name.

Thank You for the promise of Heaven when we place our faith in Jesus Christ who died for our sins.

Help us to tell others about Jesus Christ.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.
