Holding On To Jesus During Life's Storms

There is another snow storm raging outside my window right now as I write this blog posting.  The wind is howling and the snow is coming down at a pretty steady clip.  The weather people say it is supposed to be really bad tonight.  There have been people rushing to the grocery store all day stocking up on food and other items.  People had that look of panic on their faces as the threat of the coming storm was announced on all of the local and national news channels.

When storms come against us we start to panic or get very discouraged at the inconvenience that it causes us.  Storms disrupt our routines.  They cause us to adjust our schedules.   Storms come upon us rather unexpectedly and the end up staying longer than we would like them to.

I live in Northern Maine and we know all about winter storms up here because we get our fair share of them every winter.  There are other storms that effect us as well.  Not just here where I live, but the storms I am talking about affect everyone of us no matter where we live.  The storms of life can cause us great discomfort as much as a weather related storm.  What do I mean by a "Storm of life"?

What I mean is those times of adversity.  Those times when life seems to be running smoothly then all of a sudden something totally unexpected happens and it throws us off track.  Everything maybe going well for us then all of a sudden we lose our job, our health fails, a loved one dies, we lose our home, or we end up divorced.

The storms of life can hit us as hard as a category five hurricane that levels everything in its path.  These times of adversity hurt and we may feel broken with no one to turn to.

The truth of the matter is we do have some one to turn to in our times of turmoil and during that most trying storms of our lives.  We can turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus tells us in Scripture that in this world we will have troubles, but we should take heart because He has overcome the world.

Jesus knows how difficult life can get.  Jesus came as a baby born of a virgin and placed in manger because there was no room at the inn.  We are all familiar with all that went on when He first came to the earth because we talked about it during Christmas time a few months ago.  Sometimes I think we forget all that Jesus experienced as a human being.

Jesus is fully God.  He is the second person of the Holy Trinity.  There is God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.  Jesus came to earth as a man.  He was fully God and fully Man.

Jesus lived life here on earth as we live it.  Yes,  He lived a perfect and sinless life.  Jesus Christ took on human flesh as we read in John 1:14 which says,

"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.  We have seem His glory,  the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father,  full of grace and truth."

Jesus came into this world and experienced life as we experience it with all of the storms that you and I face.  The Lord knows how hard life is and He even knows what it is like to face temptations.  Jesus was tempted as you and I are, but Jesus never gave in to those temptations.  That means Jesus never sinned.

He was the perfect sinless God-Man.  He is the Only One who could die on the Cross for the sins of all human kind.  He was the Lamb without blemish or spot.

There is a storm brewing and God's wrath will one day be unleashed upon the sinful and wicked.  The Lord will come someday and judge the world.  God made a way to find shelter from that storm.

We know that we have all sinned and have fallen short of God's high standards.  There is not one of us that is good enough to obtain forgiveness of our sins or earn our way into Heaven on our own merit.

God showed us a way to escape the wrath to come.  God demonstrated His love to all human kind by sending His only begotten Son to come to earth to grow and live as a man.  Jesus lived a perfect and sinless life.  He went obediently to the Cross where He shed His blood for our sins and not just our sins, but for the sins of the whole world.  Everyone who puts their faith and trust in what Jesus did on the Cross for them will be saved.  Whoever calls on the name of Lord will be saved.

God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day and ascended to Heaven where He is seated at the right hand of the Father.  One day the Lord Jesus will return as the King of kings and the Lord of lords.  He will judge the living and the dead.

Those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will enter Heaven and live with Him for all eternity.  We must repent of our sins and trust in the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

When the storms of life come and they will we can trust the Lord to lead us through them.  Times are tough and we will have troubles.  If we have placed our faith in Jesus Christ then we know we are in His perfect loving hands and that we have nothing to fear no matter what storms come against us.

Are you trusting in Jesus Christ through your storms?

Lord,  Heavenly Father,

Life is hard.  The storms of life can be difficult.

I am trusting You Lord through these storms.

You are may Lord and Savior.

Thank You Jesus for dying on the Cross for my sins which are many.

Thank You for Your great love for me and all of us.

I pray for more people to come to faith in You Lord and trust in Your grace.

Come Soon Lord.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen.
