When Our Faith Seems Small We Must Lean On Jesus

There will be times in the life of a believer when our faith in Jesus Christ will be tested.  Things maybe going well for us and then something out of the blur challenges us to the extreme.  Jesus tells us that in this world we will indeed have troubles, but He also tells us to take heart because He has overcome the world.

The things that can challenge our faith in Christ can vary from person to person.   Those challenges and trials can include something with losing our health, losing our job, relationship problems, and number of other things.

We also have an enemy, the devil, that likes to stir up trouble for us and he comes at us like a lion trying to find someone to devour.  We must stand firm in our faith in Jesus Christ and resist the devil and his schemes.  The Lord is more powerful that anything the devil and his demons can throw at us.
We must remember that we were bought at a high price.  We were bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

I was thinking about the challenges we all face at times and how they can seem like storms.  Some storms last only a short time and don't do much damage.  However some storms last a long time and cause great ruin.  The troubles that come against us can seem just like a storm indeed.

The disciples were in a few storms during their lifetimes.  On one such occasion they got into a boat with Jesus and a furious storm broke out while they were out on the lake.  We can read that account in Matthew 8:23-27 which says,

"23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.

24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.

25 And they went and woke him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing."

26 And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and 7there was a great calm.

27 And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?"

The disciples had their faith tested in the storm.  Their boat was tossed by the angry waves of the storm.   You and I get tossed around in life sometimes, don't we?  We sure do.  We live in a world where problems come at us in all shapes and sizes and personality types.

I know there have been times when the Lord could have said the same thing to me that He said to the disciples out on that stormy sea.  He said, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?"  Sometimes our faith shrinks when troubles come and it seems like when the troubles get bigger the more afraid we get.  We must remember that our God is still on the throne.  God is still all powerful and all knowing.  There is absolutely nothing that is impossible with God.  Our God is bigger than any problem that we will ever face in our lifetimes.

These challenges that come against us can actually strengthen our faith if we allow them too.  We can use these moments of difficulty to learn to lean upon the Lord Jesus Christ even more than we ever had before.  We must fall down at the feet of Jesus in complete surrender and trust Him through our storms and the challenges that plague us at times.

Let us continue to cling to the Lord Jesus for He is the author and finisher of our faith.  Jesus never changes.  He is the same yesterday, today, and forever more.  We can trust Him to always walk us through those trying moments that we face.

When our faith seems small let us remember how big our God is.

Lord,
We thank You for always being with us through all of life's moments especially those times that challenge our faith.  Help us Lord to cling to You during those times of trial. We love You and trust You.  Lead us and guide us by Your Holy Spirit.  Help us to feed upon Your Holy Word.  Touch everyone who is going through a trial with Your comforting hand.

In Jesus name,
Amen.
