Sometimes in the midst of our busyness of our lives we may eventually find ourselves stressed our and tired. We may feel weary and worn down by life's battles. When we find ourselves beaten down and on the verge of complete surrender we need to refocus our gaze upon the One who can help us in our times of trouble. Jesus wants us to come to Him to find rest. He promises to give us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
When we come to Him in faith and lay down our burdens at the foot of the Cross He will indeed give us rest in our souls. One day we who are believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior will be taken to Heaven to be with the Lord forever and there we will experience eternal life where there will be no more heartache, no more sorrow, no more death, and the Lord will wipe away every tear from our eyes. We will also find rest from all of our labor.
Our souls can find rest in the Lord because He alone is God and there us no other. The Lord is our solid foundation. He is our rock. The Lord can not be moved. He can't be shaken at all by anything. We may find our faith shaken at times by things that happen to us during our journey here on earth. The Lord is never surprised by anything that occurs in our lives. He knows what will happen to us moment by moment. There is never a moment and there will never be a moment in our lives when we will hear God say, "Wow, I didn't know that was going to happen!"
The Lord knows our beginning and He knows the very day we believers will enter into His presence in Heaven to be with Him forever. We can trust the Lord with our day to day concerns and we can trust Him to provide for our every need. We can trust Him because we know He is faithful. He loves us with an everlasting ad unconditional love.
It is hard for us to comprehend God's love for us because we fail to give this kind of love ourselves and we seldom if ever receive this kind of love from other people. Our loving parents maybe the closest model of this type of love, but even that kind of love doesn't come close to the kind of love the Lord pours out upon us.
God demonstrated this great love to us by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to come to earth and die on the Cross for our sins. That is great love. Jesus rose from the dead to show s that He is indeed God. Who ever calls on the name of the Lord will indeed be saved. God calls all people to come to Him to find forgiveness of their sins by believing on Jesus Christ.
When we understand the magnitude of His great love for us we can find out that we can rest in Him because of who He is. He is God. We are not. We are His servants. He will work through us by the Holy Spirit who dwells within every believer in Christ for His Glory, Honor, and Praise.
I like what the Psalmist says in Psalm 62 which says,
"My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
How long will you assault a man?
Would all of you throw him down-
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
They fully intend to topple him from his lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend upon God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust Him at all times,
O people;
pour out your hearts to Him,
for God is our refuge.
Lowborn men are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie;
if weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.
Do not trust in extortion or take pride in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.
One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that You, O God, are strong,
and that You, O Lord are loving.
Surely You will reward each person according
to what he has done."
We can find true rest in the Lord. The Lord loves us and wants to have a personal relationship with us. He made a way for each one of us to be reconciled to Him by sending Jesus Christ into this world to save us by shedding His blood on the Cross for our sins. What great love the Lord showed us and He continues to show us His great love each and everyday. His mercies are new every single morning and Great is His faithfulness to us.
God is our refuge and our strength, He is a help in our time of need. We can find rest and peace in Christ alone.
The Lord calls each of us to come to Him and find rest. We labor and strive to do things in our own power, but it doesn't take long for us to figure out that we just end up feeling tired when we do things in our own power and strength. The Lord wants us to rest in Him and allow Him to work through us.
Let us stop the striving and find our rest in the Lord alone.
Lord,
We thank You that we can find rest in You.
For You are God and You love us deeply.
We praise You.
We are grateful for all You have done for us and all that You continue to do for us.
Bless us now O Lord
In Jesus name,
Amen.
