Calming Our Fears

Fear can strike any of us at anytime no matter where we are and no matter who we are.  There are definitely things that we should fear, but there are also things we should not fear.  If our house is on fire and we need to get out then of course that fear we feel will help drive us to get out and whoever is there with us as well.

There are somethings that produce fear within us, but we know in our minds that there is nothing to be worried about.  For example maybe you wanted to take some pictures of the beautiful fall leaves and you tried to walk across a bridge to get a picture, but since you are not very fond of heights you stopped not even half way across the bridge and you never got the picture.  You ended up walking back to your car and driving off.  Sometimes we get these irrational fears.  We know they don't make sense, but the feelings seem so very real and terrifying.

Throughout the Bible we are told, "Do not be afraid, Do no fear, and Don't worry."  We still find ourselves at times full of fear and panic wondering what will happen to us.  It is during these times we must remember that the Lord Jesus is always with us and He will never ever leave us nor will He ever forsake us ever.

The Lord sticks closer to us even more than a brother or a close family member or a friend would.  We can trust Him in every area of our lives.  There will still be times when our fears will try to overwhelm us, but the Lord is with us even during those moments.

2 Timothy 1:7 says,

"For God has not given us a Spirit of timidity, but a Spirit of power, of love, and of self discipline."

No matter what our enemy throws at us and no matter what fearful things come against us we know that we have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ if we have come to know Him as our Lord and Savior.  He loves us and He wants us to lay down our fears as hard as that can be at times.  I am still trying to do just that as well.  The Lord doesn't want us to live in fear.  He wants us to walk with our faith in Him.  Fear can cause our faith to shrink.  God is bigger that any fear that we have.

Let's face it there are many things that can cause us to fear in this world in which we live in.  We must remember that the Lord is preparing a place in Heaven for all of those who have trusted Christ as their Lord and Savior.  The Day will come when the Lord Jesus will take us Home to be with Him for all eternity.  What a great Day that will be indeed.

Sometimes we can seem to be our own worse enemy.  I can attest to that very well.  There have been times when I have allowed my imagination to run wild and I have ended up causing myself to become afraid about somethings that I really should not have been afraid of.  Some of our worse fears never become realities, thankfully.

Let us set out eyes and our minds upon Jesus for He is greater than any of our fears.  We need to run to Jesus with our fears and worries.  We must trust in Him and have faith in Him.  All things are possible with the Lord.  He is faithful and He is trustworthy.

Lord,
We come to You with our fears big and small.
Help us to be calm and call out to You.
Lead us and guide us.
Touch us and heal us.
Strengthen us and encourage us.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
