Who Are You Going To Follow?

The world is a dark and scary place.  Things seem to be getting darker and more wicked as each day passes.  Many people are trapped in the bondage of sin and they feel like there is no hope.  We believers in Jesus Christ know that there is indeed hope and that is found in the Lord Himself.

It is so important now days for you and I to know who we are following.  Are we going to follow the world? or Are we going to follow Jesus Christ?

Those are our only options.  I choose to follow Jesus.  He is my Lord and Savior.  He is my redeemer.  You see I am a sinner and so are you.  The Bible plainly tells us that everyone has sinned and have fallen short of God's high standards.  God demonstrated His love for us in this way: while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Jesus took our sins upon Himself and went obediently to the Cross where He shed His blood for our sins.  There is still power in the blood.  I am thankful for the blood of Jesus Christ.  I am thankful for the Lord and His amazing Grace.

We must receive His atoning sacrifice for our sins.  We must come humbly to Him and confess that we are sinners and can't save ourselves then we must receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior.  Then we are to follow Him by allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our steps and help us to understand His Word (the Bible).

I am reminded of Luke 5:1-11 which says,

"1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God.

2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.

3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”

9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken,

10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”

11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him."

Peter came to realize that Jesus wasn't just a good teacher.  Peter also realized that Jesus wasn't just a good man.  Jesus is the Son of the Living God.   Peter humbled himself and fell on His knees before Jesus.  Peter declared that he himself was a sinful man.

Jesus saw that fear in Peter and He told him not to be afraid.  He told Peter that from now on he would be fishing for people to draw them with the Gospel Message into the Kingdom of God.

We read that Peter and his partners left everything and followed Jesus.  What have we left to follow Jesus?  Are we still clinging to something in our lives?

I choose to follow Jesus wherever He leads me.

Lord,

Help us to follow You wherever You would lead us.

Sometimes we get afraid and anxious, but we submit to Your authority for You know best.

Lead us and guide us by Your Spirit.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.
