Fending Off Worry With The Truth Of God's Word

There are many things in our world today that can cause us to worry.  The world seems to be a very dark and scary place where we wonder what awful thing will happen next.  Many people worry about their health or the health of a loved one.  Some people get stuck in a trap of worrying about every little detail of their lives.

There are millions of things that we could worry about, but not one of those moments of worrying can add an inch to our height or a minute to our lives.  Worrying robs us of our joy and it takes our eyes off of the One who is Mightier than our worries and fears.  When we worry we have taken our eyes off of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  I like the passage in Matthew 6:25-34 which says,

"25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Sometimes we get caught up in worrying about material things and whether we will have enough to get by with.  We must learn and believe that the Lord is our provider and He will provide for our every genuine need.  We may not always get what we think we want, but the Lord knows exactly what we need and when we need it.  We need to trust the Lord more in our lives and with everything in our lives.  There is nothing that happens in our lives that catches the Lord by surprise for He knows the very beginning to the very end.

The Lord Jesus urges us to look at the birds of the air and how the Heavenly Father takes car of them.  We are of much more value than the birds and we can be sure that the Lord will take care of us as well in every area of our lives.

Jesus tells us to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.  Sometimes we forget that we belong to the Lord and He will provide for us.  We must keep our focus upon the Lord and keep seeking after Him in prayer and worship.  We must continue to read His Word and fend off worrisome thoughts with God's Word.

The Lord is our helper in our time of need.  Sometimes the biggest worry that we have never comes true.  We need to remind our big worries that our God is much bigger.  The Lord is Mighty and all powerful.  When we start to worry we need to stop and refocus our attention upon the Lord.   We must trust the Lord with our worries and fears and seek His comfort.

Lord,

Thank You for Your love and Amazing Grace.
Help us to bring our worries to You in prayer and leave them with You.
We praise Your Holy Name.
Lead us and guide us by Your Holy Spirit.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
