There are times in our lives when we will feel lonely and even disconnected from people. Sometimes we may even feel far away from the Lord. It would seem that nowadays it is very hard to develop true lasting friendships with other people. It can be difficult to step out of our comfort zones and try to engage in conversations with people we don't know very well.
We live in a world that is highly technologically advanced and we have devices where we can communicate with others all over the world in an instant, but people still find themselves feeling lonely. It is truly amazing that people can have a great job, lots of money, a little bit of fame, a family, and they are empty inside and feel like an utter failure.
Sometimes people even get depressed and feel rather hopeless. The loneliness they feel can seem so overwhelming that they just don't see a way out of their dark gloomy despair. They feel as if they have been thrown into a deep dark pit.
This reminds me of a young man named Joseph in the book of Genesis. Joseph had dreams about his brothers and his entire family bowing down to him and he ended up telling everyone about these dreams he had. Joseph's bothers hated him because their father Jacob loved Joseph more than them. Jacob even gave Joseph a special coat.
One day Joseph's brothers tossed him into a deep dark pit in the middle of nowhere. There poor Joseph was all alone. Loneliness was his only friend it would seem to an outsider anyway. Joseph had a friend though that was keeping an eye on him. Joseph's friend was a friend that sticks closer than a brother and this friend can be our friend as well. The friend I am speaking of is the Lord.
The Lord loves us with a deep and everlasting love. The Lord will love us and take care of us even when we find ourselves in a deep dark stinky pit. We may feel all alone and very sad. We may even try to reach out to people, but they may reject us. The Lord won't reject us if we come to Him by placing our faith in Jesus Christ and trust in His Grace.
The Lord urges all of us who are weary and tired and heavy burdened to come to Him and learn of Him. He wants us to draw closer to Him in those dark and lonely times. There are times when things seem so dark and lonely that we may feel like giving up on everything, but I would urge you to never give up on the Lord. He will use this time of adversity to strengthen your faith in Him and He will turn our the darkest trials for our good.
I know the journey can seem long and rather bumpy, but the Lord is with us each step of the way. We may feel like we are at the end of our rope and we may feel like throwing in the towel, but the Lord has something so much better in store for us if we just trust Him through this time of difficulty.
I would encourage you to read Joseph's story in Genesis 37-50: http://www.biblestudytools.com/passage/?q=genesis+37;+genesis+38;+genesis+39;+genesis+40;+genesis+41;+genesis+42;+genesis+43;+genesis+44;+genesis+45;+genesis+46;+genesis+47;+genesis+48;+genesis+49;+genesis+50
Joseph faced difficult times and hardship. He was looked down upon, He was mistreated. He was falsely accused. The Lord brought up Joseph from the dark put that he was in and put him in a position where he could save the Nation of Israel.
The Lord is at work in our lives as well. We must not give up even when everything within our being tells us to. The Lord is not finished with you yet. Your best days are just up ahead of you. It may be tomorrow or it may not be until the Lord takes us Home to Heaven to be with Him for all eternity.
The Lord Jesus loves you and He wants you to trust Him.
The Lord will get you out of the pit that you are in. He will lift you up out of the mud and mire. He will set your feet firmly upon the Rock. Jesus is our Rock. He is the firm foundation on which our faith stands.
Let us praise Him and love Him and trust Him.
Lord, Heavenly Father,
We praise Your Name.
Help us out of this pit that we find ourselves in.
We cling to You O Lord.
Lead us and guide us into all truth through Your Holy Spirit and Your Word.
Set us upon the Rock.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
