The more I look around during this time of the year the more I am convinced that many people have totally forgotten what Christmas is all about. The sad part is it even seems to have confused some Christians dare I say.
We get busy with the shopping and decorating and all of the other things that we forget that Christmas is supposed to be all about Jesus Christ being sent from Heaven to the earth. He was born of a virgin and placed in a lowly manger. The Word had become flesh and dwelt among His own Creation.
Jesus Christ who is called Immanuel which means, "God with us" came to earth and that is why we celebrate Christmas. This is to be a time of Joy. Christmas should be a time of rejoicing. This is to be a time of worship and praise to our God for doing such a great thing by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth on a great rescue mission.
Jesus came to save us sinners because we can't save ourselves. There is not one of us that is good enough to save ourselves. We have all sinned and have fallen short of God's high standards. God is full of mercy and grace. He sent Jesus to die on a cruel rugged Cross for our sins. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord and has put their faith and trust in Jesus finished work on the Cross will be saved. We are saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
I have heard people talking the other day about Christmas being all about standing in line at a store to buy things. I feel like Christmas has been stolen of its true meaning. Our culture has water down the truth so much that even followers of Christ seem to have been caught up in a lie.
The truth must be proclaimed. The Gospel must be proclaimed. The true meaning of Christmas must be reclaimed.
Christmas is the time when we celebrate God's perfect gift to all of us.
Jesus Christ is the gift and we must receive Him to obtain forgiveness of our sins and eternal life in Heaven.
Jesus is the reason for Christmas.
Lord,
We praise Your name. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to earth.
Lead us and guide us closer to You.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
