Forgiving Those Who Reject Us

There are times when we all feel the pains of being rejected by someone.  When we are rejected by someone it hurts us to the very core of our being.  We wonder if there is something wrong with us or if we have done something wrong.

The feelings of rejection can come upon us when a company that we have worked at for many years lets us go.  When a loved one moves far away we may feel a little rejected.  We may feel deeply rejected when a spouse or friend breaks off a relationship with us.

Rejection hurts.  We have all encountered rejection of some sort.  I remember many times in my life when I have felt those deep wounds of rejection.  Some of those wounds seem like they are burned into my brain.  Sometimes those scars of rejection take time to heal.  It starts with forgiving that person even though that may seem really hard depending on the situation.

When we forgive someone we are not saying what they did wasn't wrong and that it didn't hurt us.  When we forgive someone we are giving them into God's hands and allowing Him to deal with them the way He sees fit.  The Lord knows how to reach people.  He knows every one's heart and He knows how to deal with each person.  He is rich in mercy and grace, but He is also the just Judge.

One time many years ago when I was in junior high school I had a huge crush on this pretty blond girl.  I was really shy and didn't talk very much.  I have gotten a little better at that with still room for improvement of course.  I got up the courage to ask her out to see a movie.  I approached her after class and I asked her.  I wasn't sure what her reaction would be and I was so very nervous.  She looked at me and starting laughing at me and her friends laughed too.

I was hurt deeply and humiliated.  I felt so very alone and definitely rejected.  That has been so very many long years ago and yet that pain of rejection still seems so fresh that it could have happened yesterday.

We need to forgive those who hurt us and release them to the Lord.  I am thankful that God welcomes us with opened arms.  When we come to faith in Jesus Christ and trust Him as our Lord and Savior we can know that He will never reject us.

Those who have rejected Jesus and His finished work on the Cross will face total eternal rejection.  I wouldn't wish that on anybody.  Jesus doesn't want anyone to perish, but He wants everyone to come to Him for salvation.

Jesus is ready to welcome you into His kingdom.  All you have to do is trust in His death on the Cross for your sins and trust Him as your Lord and Savior.

Jesus loves you.

Trust in Him.

Lord,
Thank You for loving us unconditionally.
Help us to forgive those who reject us and hurt us.
We give them into Your hands.
Bless us this day.
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen.
