Worrying about things seems to come very easy to us all.
No one has to teach us how to do it either. There are no Introduction to Worry 101 classes in college.
Worry seems to come naturally to us. There are plenty of things we could worry about.
There is the economy.
Job security.
The Government.
The Country.
Terrorism.
All of these things can cause us to become worried. We should be concerned about them, but we ought not to give into worrying about them.
When I think about worrying I think of Matthew 6:25-34.
Jesus starts out in verse 25 saying, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?"
Then Jesus tells His disciples and us to look at the birds.
They don't sow or reap or store there harvest in barns.
We never see birds pacing back and forth worrying where there next meal would come from.
The heavenly Father feeds them. The Lord takes care of them.
Jesus explains that we are of more value than the birds. That means we can trust God to meet our needs as well.
Jesus closes in verses 33 + 34 saying, " But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be giving to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
When we worry we are focusing more on whatever it is we are worrying about instead of focusing on the Lord. He is mighty, awesome, and powerful.
We must continue to remind ourselves, when we are tempted to worry, to look towards Jesus and seek His Kingdom.
Are you seeking Jesus?
