Wisdom And Knowledge

There are many people in our world today that have attained knowledge by educating themselves in one way or another.  It is very helpful to have a good education.  When we are well educated we are well informed.  Well, that is if the knowledge we posses is founded upon the truth.  There are many people who have great knowledge of many things, but they lack wisdom.

Wisdom and knowledge are not exactly the same.  I once heard a comparison of knowledge and wisdom and it went like this:

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.

Wisdom is realizing that a tomato would not go well in a fruit salad with watermelon and cantaloupe.

It is good for us to seek knowledge, but we need to be sure we have wisdom in order to use the things that we have learned.  We must also be careful about what we are learning and make sure it lines up with the Word of God, the Bible.

Psalm 111:10 tells us,

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

all who follow His precepts have good understanding.

To Him belongs eternal praise.

There are many people in our world who are filled with knowledge and they are well known for their educational pursuits and research.  It is great to have a good education, but if what we have learned excludes God and His precepts then we will run into a big problem one day for we will all have to stand before the Living God at Judgment and give an account for the lives we have lived.

Knowledge can puff us up and it can make us prideful if we aren't careful to give all the glory and praise to God for any achievement that we have made.  God needs to get all the glory for we can't do anything in our own strength and power.  We are weak, but God is strong and all things are possible with God.  We must remember to remain humble and submit all that we are to Him.

We must remember to have a proper foundation for our knowledge and wisdom and that must be firmly established upon the truth of Jesus Christ and who He is.  We believers and followers of Jesus Christ must read His Word, the Bible and be doers of His Word and not just hearers of it.  We must apply His Word to our lives and live for Him empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Lord,
We praise Your Name.
Help us to have knowledge that is firmly established upon the truth of who You are.
Help us to have the wisdom to humble ourselves before Your throne of mercy and be led by the Holy Spirit.
Forgive us for any pride in our lives.
Help us to be obedient to Your Word and the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen.
