Jesus Wants Us To Follow Him

It is easy to make excuses not to do something, isn't it? We are pretty good at finding a way not to do something that we know needs to be done.  We may say, "I am not qualified", or "I am not a good leader".   We use those excuses and some just like that when we live out our lives, but sadly we sometimes use those excuses when the Lord asks us to do something.

The Lord wants us to follow Him and He wants us to serve Him.  He puts us in places so we can minister to others His love for them.  Sometimes we miss the point of what the Lord is doing and what He wants to do through us.  Every person who has put their faith in Jesus Christ has something that the Lord wants them to do.

We may not feel qualified.  We may not be a great leader.  We may not come off as very friendly no matter how hard we try, but the Lord has something for us to do for Him and His glory.  Sometimes we can make serving the Lord being about us and what we do, but it is not about us at all.  It is about Jesus.  Jesus wants us to follow Him where He sends us whether it is across the street to encourage a neighbor or whether it is in a far away country where you don't feel like you fit in.

Whatever the Lord calls us to do He will enable us to do it.  He has a way to prepare us for the work He has for us to do.  The only thing the Lord wants us to do is just to trust Him to do the work through us for His glory, honor, and praise.

Sometimes it is easy to just go to church week after week a fill a pew and feel like we fulfilled our religious duty to the Lord.  That is not what Jesus has in mind though.  The Lord Jesus saves us by His grace.  We are saved by the shed blood of Christ and we are headed to Heaven based on His finished work on the cross.

He wants us to grow in our faith.  He wants us to draw nearer towards Him and learn more about Him.  We can do that by reading the Bible and praying.  We can also do this by fellowshipping with other Christians.  Sometimes that seems like a hard thing to do these days.   Many people are so busy in their own lives that they don't have time (or make time) to devote themselves in serving Jesus and getting to know other believers.

We are supposed to be brothers and sisters in Christ.  We are called to love one and other.  We are called to serve the Lord and follow Him.  I am reminded about a time when Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee and He say Simon who is called Peter and his brother Andrew.  (Matthew 4:18-20)

Jesus looked at them and said, "Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men."

They ended up dropping their nets and followed Jesus.

They left everything and followed the Lord.  We may not have to leave everything physically speaking when we come to know Jesus, but He wants our full devotion.  He wants us to make serving Him a priority for our lives.  We as believers and followers of Jesus Christ must put Jesus first in our lives.  That may mean serving tables at a senior supper or doing dishes.  That may mean visiting with someone who is a shut in or in a nursing facility.

There are many opportunities to serve Jesus in you very own local Church.  The Lord Jesus is calling out to you and I and saying, "Come, follow me."

The Lord will help us to do the task whatever it is.  Let us serve the Lord and be obedient to Him.  Ask your Pastor how you can help and I am very sure that he will find something for you to help with.  Don't be afraid to take a step of faith.  Just remember that you are doing it for Jesus, the One who died on the cross for your sins.  Let us serve Him in that we do until He comes and take us home.

He is worthy of all of our praise and devotion.  He is worthy of our service.

Follow Him.  Serve Him.

Jesus loves you.  Won't you show Him how much you love Him?

Lord,
We love You and thank You for all You do and have done for us.
Help us to serve You in whatever task You would have us to do.
Lead us and empower us by Your Spirit to do Your will.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
