Our Heart Problem

Our world is one of brokenness.  There is an increasing darkness that seems to plague the hearts of people.  There is a major problem in our world these days and it is so very easy to place blame.  It is easy to blame the makers of weaponry or political parties or crazy people with an agenda, but the true problem is one of the human heart.

Whether we like it or not the heart problem just doesn't afflict the jerk we know down the street or that overly angry person that snaps at us when we with him a Merry Christmas at Christmas time, but this heart ailment afflicts every single human heart on the planet.  Our heart problem is caused by sin.  We all have sin in our hearts.  We come into this world with our hearts bent away from God.  We are spiritually dead at birth.

Our hearts can deceive us so very terribly.  Our hearts need to be renewed.  We need a rebirth of sorts.  Jesus tells us in John Chapter 3 that we must be born again.  We need a do over.  We all have sinned and we have all fallen short of God's glory.

We must first realize that there is this terrible darkness and ugliness in our very hearts.  We must confess our sinfulness to the Lord our God.  God wants to have a relationship with each one of us because He loves us so very greatly.  Sin separates us from that relationship with God.  God made a way for us to be reconciled back to Himself by sending His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect and sinless life.  Jesus laid down His life for our sins by dying on the Cross.  Jesus shed His blood for our sins.  Jesus paid the penalty for our sin on the Cross.  He took the punishment that you and I so very rightly deserve.

God knows the awfulness of sin.  We are told in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.  We must confess that we are sinners to the Lord and then receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior.  We must come to realize that we need a Savior because we can not save ourselves.  There is no amount of good works that we can perform in order for us to earn forgiveness or a place in Heaven when we die.  There is only on Way to get forgiveness and entrance in Heaven and that is by placing our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and the only Way to the Father.  There is no other name under Heaven in which we must be saved by.  We must come to faith in Jesus Christ and trust in His grace.

We live in a sinful and fallen world, but there is hope for each one of us.  That hope is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  We see horrible tragedies unfold before our eyes which seems far too often.  It is in those times that we are reminded that our world is broken and there are broken people all around us.  There are people all around us that need the Lord Jesus in their lives.

I am saddened at the awful event that unfolded last night in Las Vegas.  My prayers go our to those who lost loves ones and those who were injured.  May the Lord grant you strength and a peace that passes all understanding in this life altering moment.

Lord,
We praise Your Name.
Set my soul afire for You O Lord.
Forgive my sins.  Help me to forgive those who sin against me and treat me badly.
I uplift those in Las Vegas for comfort.
I pray for the U.S.A. 
Revive the Body of Christ.
May we bend our knees in pray and call out to You O Lord in our time of need.
Come quickly Lord Jesus.
