Sometimes life can seem so very hard and even hopeless. I saw video on the television news of the horrible devastation that tornadoes and floods were causing in the middle of our country. I saw interviews with people who were suffering and there seemed to be a hopelessness in their voice. I can see why. I would probably feel hopeless and discouraged as well if I lost all that I had.
None of us like change and none of us like feeling hopeless. Sometimes in those hard moments of life we feel like there is no where to turn, but thankfully there is somewhere to turn. His name is Jesus. Jesus Christ is our living hope. When we speak of hope we aren't talking about wishful thanking such as, "I hope it doesn't snow tomorrow." The hope the Bible talks about is a sure thing because it is based upon the promise of God who always keeps His promises.
Jesus is our living hope because He died on the Cross for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Jesus took the punishment that we deserve by shedding His blood for our sins. We must come to repentance of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior to be saved. We are saved by grace by placing our faith in Him.
God is awesome and He loves us so very much. I had the opportunity to go down to the Selden Baptist Church and preach this morning. It was only four of us, but we had a wonderful time of basking in the presence of the Lord. We could feel His presence. We had some laughs and we prayed. I nearly passed out. It was great! Praise the Lord!
I probably should explain the almost passing out part. We start the church services at 9am and it was cold in the church so we had the heater running. The heating unit sits directly behind the pulpit. I was asked of I wanted to have it turned off at the beginning of the service, but I declined. The heater was on during the entire service even when I started the sermon. I preached on our living hope in the Lord Jesus Christ and having faith in Him.
I preached and preached. Towards the end of my sermon I feel sweat running down the back of my legs. I decided that it was time to turn off the heater. I turned to turn off the heater and I started to feel a little weird so I decided I needed to drink some water fast before I keeled over. I had a nice long cold drink of my water and felt better. It was a great service. I think next week we'll turn the heater off. Although I have heard of fiery sermons before.
Lord,
We thank You for being our living hope.
Lead us and guide us by Your Holy Spirit.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen.
