A Witness To The True Light

God sent a man, John the Baptist,

7 to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony.

8 John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light.

9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him
.

11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.

12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

15 John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’”

16 From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

17 For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

18 No one has ever seen God.  But the unique One, who is Himself God, is near to the Father's heart.

He has revealed God to us.

- John 1:6-18

God sent a witness to the Light that was coming into the world.  That witness was John the Baptist and He was sent by God to point people to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the world.  Jesus was the true Light that was coming into the world.

This world is a dark place and it keeps getting darker day by day.  The pressure against born again believers in Christ is mounting.  The pressure and persecution will continue to increase.  We believers in Jesus Christ must stand firm upon the true of God's Word and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to be a witness for the Lord in hopes of drawing some to Him.

Sometimes our witness may not be very good unfortunately.  Sometimes our attitude isn't right and we react to adversity in harsh way.  We aren't a perfect people, but we are a forgiven people through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.  The devil fires his flaming darts at us in hope of tripping us up and hurting our witness.  We must submit to the Lord and resist the devil.

Sometimes it is our own selfish sinful nature that gets us into trouble with no help from the devil at all.  We must confess our sins and our shortcomings to the Lord and know that He forgives us and He will work things out for us and for His glory.

Those of this world who are not believers in Christ have rejected Him even though He loves them and invites them as well into a personal relationship with Him.  May the Lord convict the unbelievers of their sins and may they turn from their wicked ways and receive salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross.

Jesus knows what it is like to live on this earth since He became one of us and dwelt among us.  He was fully God and fully Man.  Jesus showed us what the Father is like.  He reconciles us back into a right relationship with the Father through His shed blood on the Cross.

May the Holy Spirit shine through us to draw others to Jesus.  May we walk in the Spirit more often and give no room for the fleshly nature.  People love to push our buttons and cause trouble for us.  There are times we get so very upset because our pride is hurt or we feel rejected by someone.  We may not act very Christ like at all.

Thankfully God is merciful and He understands our weakness.

Lord,
We fail at times.
Please forgive us for the times we lose our cool and hurt our witness.
Help us to walk in the Spirit.
Lead us and guide us.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen.
